How to play Braid

Every day, three related five-letter words are woven together into one row of fifteen letters. Each word keeps its letters in order, but they're mixed in with the other two. Pull them apart.

Every braid has exactly one answer. A clock runs while you play, so you can race your friends.

Stuck?

Hints open up as the clock runs. After a minute you can see the theme. After a minute and a half, numbers show where each word starts. After two minutes, the first word lifts out for you. And if the braid still has you beaten, you can show the answer (but your streak starts again).

A braid, step by step

F C S T R O L O
 S R O T M U D

The theme is weather, and the three words start among the first five letters: here F, C and S. Try STORM first: its S and T sit side by side, then take the next O, the R on the second line and the M near the end. That leaves F C R L O S O T U D, where FROST jumps out: F, R, O, S, T. What's left is CLOUD. Click!

Questions

Is Braid free?

Yes. It's free to play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to download and no sign-up.

When is there a new braid?

Every day at midnight, your time. Everyone gets the same braid, so you can compare with friends.

Can I play more than once a day?

The daily braid is one go each. Once you're done, you can practise on earlier days' braids.

Do you keep any of my data?

No. Your games and stats are saved only on your own device, in your browser, and there's no account. It's free because it shows adverts from Google; see privacy and cookies for how those work.
